sad, amazing, and beautiful

From time to time, I visit the PostSecret blog, and last week, this was featured. Within 24 hours a facebook group titled “please don’t jump” emerged with thousands of supporters. The outpouring of goodness in people warmed my heart, but the tears started flowing when I read this underneath the post:
“Frank,
I don’t know if you realize it or not but in less then a day over 11,000 people have joined the facebook page you linked to offering support and compassion for the sender of this postcard.
On Sunday the 13th at noon I plan on printing up all the caring comments from facebook, taking them to the Golden Gate Bridge and taping them up all along the walkway. I’d ask you to join me but I know you are on the other side of the country.”
For all the cynicism and negativism that breeds the internet, I find it incredible how powerful the internet is in bringing people together. Is there anything more inspiring than to see people all over the world rallying behind an individual to show that there are strangers who value another stranger’s life?
